EV Charger Price Malaysia 2026 — Home Wallbox from RM898

A home EV wallbox costs RM898 to RM2,100 as hardware on Shopee Malaysia — roughly a third of the RM3,000 to RM7,900 installer guides quote for the same class of charger.

What an EV Charger Actually Costs in Malaysia

The hardware is far cheaper than the quoted packages suggest — but the installation is not optional, and that is where the real money goes.

  • Home wallbox hardware: RM898 to RM2,100. The best-selling unit is the feyree 7.6kW Type 2 wallbox at RM1,100, with 606 sold.
  • Installer guides quote RM3,000 to RM7,900 for the same class of hardware. MG Malaysia’s own charging guide puts a 7kW wallbox at RM3,000–RM5,900 and a 22kW at RM3,500–RM7,900, excluding installation.
  • Installation adds RM1,500 to RM3,500 regardless of where you buy the box, and must be done by a wireman licensed by Suruhanjaya Tenaga. Sourcing your own charger does not remove this.
  • A portable “granny” charger starts at RM140 and needs no installation at all — but a 3-pin plug delivers about 2.3kW, so a 60kWh battery takes roughly 15–16 hours to go from 20% to 80%.
  • LHDN allows up to RM2,500 in personal tax relief on EV charging equipment and installation for your own vehicle (item 21, non-business use) — enough to cover a RM1,100 wallbox plus most of a basic install.
  • 7kW suits nearly every Malaysian home. It runs on the standard single-phase 230V supply and refills a 60kWh battery overnight in about 5–6 hours; 22kW needs a three-phase supply most houses do not have.

Portable Type 2 Chargers — RM140 to RM480

Plug-in units that need no installation. Typically 3.5kW from a UK 3-pin or Schuko socket — slow, but they travel with the car and work at any normal wall outlet.

Why Some Listings Show Two Very Different Prices

Several sellers list near-identical chargers at very different figures — TURBO.MY.S shows a CarVital charger at both RM80 and RM359, and TOYO.MY.S shows a 7kW portable at both RM99.90 and RM180. Shopee displays the lowest variant’s price on a multi-variant listing, so a low headline figure often belongs to a shorter cable, a lower amperage, or a cable-only option rather than the complete charger pictured.

  • We could not verify what those low variants actually ship, so they are marked “Variant price” above and are never counted as the cheapest charger on this page.
  • Check three things on the listing before paying: cable length (5m vs 10m), rated current (13A, 16A or 32A), and plug type (UK 3-pin vs Schuko vs CEE).
  • A 3-pin portable charger cannot deliver 7kW no matter what the listing title says — a UK 13A socket caps out near 3kW. Titles that pair “3-pin” with “7kW” are describing the unit’s maximum with a different plug.

Which EV Charger Should You Buy?

Picks based on real comparative signals — listed price, sold count, and each listing’s own stated specs — not hands-on testing we haven’t done.

Best Overall

feyree EV Charger Wallbox 7.6kW — RM1,100

The most-bought home charger in this comparison at 606 sold, rated 7.6kW single-phase with 11kW/22kW three-phase options per its listing. It sits well under the RM3,000 floor installer guides quote for 7kW hardware.

Based on: sales volume + price + stated specs

Best Budget Pick

NINGDIAN (ND) Type 2 Portable 7kW — RM140

The cheapest complete portable charger here with meaningful volume (199 sold). No installation, no electrician — it plugs into an existing socket, which also means slow charging.

Based on: price + sales volume

Best Portable for Daily Use

feyree Type 2 Portable Charger 16A 3.5kW — RM370.70

The highest sold count of any charger on this page at 2,000 sold, from feyree's own Shopee store, with multiple protections listed. The default choice if you want a portable rather than a fitted unit.

Based on: sales volume + stated specs

Best Splurge

feyree Wallbox with Dynamic Load Balancing — RM1,400

Adds dynamic load balancing, which throttles charging when the rest of the house is drawing power — the feature that matters most on an older Malaysian supply with a 60A main fuse.

Based on: stated specs + price

Don't Forget

Kozuka Type A RCCB/ELCB — RM95 (SIRIM approved)

A wallbox install needs a Type A residual current device. Buying it alongside the charger avoids a markup, though your licensed installer should confirm the rating suits your distribution board.

Based on: stated certification + install requirements

Best for Imported EVs

evsow Type 2 to Type 1 Adapter — RM163.02

Malaysia standardised on Type 2, so older or grey-import Japanese and American EVs with a Type 1 (SAE J1772) inlet need this to use ordinary local charging hardware.

Based on: connector standard + stated specs

What Installing a Home EV Charger in Malaysia Actually Involves

Buying the charger is the cheap part and the easy part. These are the requirements that apply regardless of where the hardware comes from:

  • A licensed wireman is mandatory. All electrical installation work in Malaysia must be done by a Wireman (W) or Electrical Engineer (EE) licensed by Suruhanjaya Tenaga. Unlicensed work voids home insurance.
  • Installation runs about RM1,500 to RM3,500, driven mostly by cable routing distance — typically 5 to 20 metres from the distribution board to the porch.
  • A 7kW charger draws 32A continuously, so it needs its own circuit, 6mm² or 10mm² copper cable, and spare capacity on the main fuse. Most Malaysian landed homes run a 60A or 100A main fuse, which is enough.
  • A Type A RCCB is part of the job, not an optional extra — SIRIM-approved units start around RM95 in the table above.
  • TNB approval is usually not needed for a 7kW single-phase install on an existing supply with spare capacity. It is required if you upgrade to three-phase or increase your main fuse size.
  • A cheaper box is not automatically the better buy. An installer package bundles hardware, wiring, the RCCB, testing and sign-off, and a single warranty covering all of it. Sourcing your own charger saves real money on hardware but splits that warranty between the Shopee seller and your contractor.

Installation figures and licensing requirements per AmCharge’s Malaysian installation guide; quoted hardware ranges per MG Malaysia’s EV charging cost guide. All prices and links on this page are live Shopee listings, not estimates.

Claim Up to RM2,500 Back on Your EV Charger

  • LHDN item 21 allows up to RM2,500 in individual tax relief on installation, rental, purchase (including hire-purchase) or subscription for EV charging facilities for your own vehicle — explicitly not for business use.
  • A RM1,100 wallbox plus a RM1,500 install fits almost entirely inside the ceiling, so the effective cost of going the self-sourced route can land close to the hardware price alone.
  • Keep the Shopee receipt and the contractor’s invoice. Both the equipment purchase and the installation payment fall under the same relief item.

Per LHDN’s published individual tax relief schedule. Relief amounts and eligibility change between assessment years — confirm the current year’s list at hasil.gov.my before filing. This is general information, not tax advice.

FAQ — EV Charger Price Malaysia

How much does an EV charger cost in Malaysia?
A home EV wallbox costs RM898 to RM2,100 as hardware on Shopee Malaysia, verified August 2026, and a portable Type 2 charger costs RM140 to RM988. Installer and vendor guides quote a considerably higher figure for the same class of hardware — MG Malaysia's own charging guide puts a 7kW wallbox at RM3,000-RM5,900 and a 22kW at RM3,500-RM7,900, excluding installation. Installation itself runs roughly RM1,500-RM3,500 and is a separate cost either way.
What is the cheapest EV charger in Malaysia?
The cheapest full portable EV charger in this comparison is the NINGDIAN (ND) Type 2 portable 7kW granny charger at RM140 from EcoSync, with 199 sold. The cheapest home wallbox is an unbranded 7kW 32A Type 2 unit at RM898. A handful of listings display lower figures (RM80, RM99.90) but those are multi-variant listings whose displayed price is a "from" floor for the cheapest variant, so they are not counted as the cheapest genuine charger here.
Can I install an EV charger myself in Malaysia?
No. All electrical installation work in Malaysia must be carried out by a Wireman (W) or Electrical Engineer (EE) licensed by Suruhanjaya Tenaga, Malaysia's energy regulator. Unlicensed installation voids home insurance and creates genuine fire and electrocution risk. Buying the charger yourself on Shopee changes what you pay for the hardware — it does not remove the need for a licensed contractor, a dedicated 32A circuit, 6mm² or 10mm² copper cable, and a Type A RCCB.
Is a 7kW or 22kW EV charger better for a Malaysian home?
A 7kW single-phase charger suits almost every Malaysian landed home. It runs on the standard 230V single-phase supply most terrace, link and semi-D houses already have, and takes roughly 5-6 hours to move a 60kWh battery from 20% to 80% — comfortably an overnight charge. A 22kW charger needs a 380V three-phase supply that most homes do not have, and your car must also accept 22kW AC, which most EVs do not (most cap at 7kW-11kW).
Can I claim tax relief on an EV charger in Malaysia?
Yes. LHDN's individual tax relief schedule lists relief of up to RM2,500 (item 21) for expenditure on the installation, rental, purchase including hire-purchase, or subscription of EV charging facilities for your own vehicle, not for business use. At Shopee hardware prices, a RM1,100 wallbox plus roughly RM1,500 of installation falls almost entirely inside that RM2,500 ceiling.
What connector do EV chargers in Malaysia use?
Type 2 (IEC 62196) is the standard AC connector for EVs sold in Malaysia, including BYD, Proton e.MAS, Tesla, MG, Hyundai, BMW and Volvo. Public DC fast chargers use CCS2 instead. Older or imported Japanese and American models may use Type 1 (SAE J1772), which needs a Type 2 to Type 1 adapter — the evsow adapter in this comparison is RM163.02.
