Every other category on Check Price Malaysia compares Shopee marketplace listings. Groceries is different: this data comes from PriceCatcher, an open dataset published by Malaysia's Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, built from price surveys collected directly at supermarket branches nationwide.
The PriceCatcher comparison tables themselves carry no affiliate links or "Buy" buttons— the government figures stay independent of anything we earn from. Each item page also shows a multi-year price trend, since we've logged this data back to January 2022.
Where PriceCatcher doesn't track something, we list real Shopee options in a separate, clearly-labelled block rather than leaving the gap unexplained. That covers two cases: staples the survey misses entirely (milk, legumes, wholegrains), and frozen or home-delivered seafood— PriceCatcher surveys fresh product on a supermarket shelf and records no frozen price at all, so there is no official figure being undercut. Those blocks show the real cost per kilogram against the fresh average, including when the frozen option works out dearer, and flag every listing that isn't a like-for-like swap.
